Family office questions
How should I follow up with a family office that has not replied?
Short answer
Send one concise follow-up that refers to your last exchange, answers any request they made, and gives a clear reason to reconnect. If there is no reply, wait a few days before a brief second touch. Avoid daily nudges, repeated calls, or adding pressure. Then pause and leave the door open.
Make the next message useful
A family office may be managing a crowded inbox, and a first note can get overlooked. Follow up with a short message that makes it easy to understand who you are and why you are writing. Refer to the earlier conversation or meeting, then get to the point.
If they asked for materials, send exactly what they requested. If they asked a question, answer it directly. Re-read your draft carefully before sending, and check that you have addressed their actual request. A thoughtful response shows that you listened and can follow through.
Give them a specific, low-pressure next step, such as asking whether a short call would be useful or whether they would prefer you to send a brief summary. Include only relevant information. Do not attach a large presentation or add several new topics unless they asked for them.
Give them room to respond
If you sent a text or email and have not heard back, wait a few days before following up again. Sending a message every day can feel intrusive. There is no universal schedule, so consider how you met, what they said about timing, and whether there is a real deadline. If they gave you a date to reconnect, follow that guidance.
Keep the second note even shorter than the first. Mention that you are checking whether the earlier message reached them, restate the one relevant point, and make it easy to decline or defer. For example, ask whether the topic is still worth discussing or whether another time would suit them better.
Know when to pause
A lack of response is not always a judgment about you or your opportunity. People miss messages, change priorities, or decide a conversation is not a fit. After a couple of respectful attempts, stop pursuing the same thread. You can send a brief closing note that leaves the option open, then move on with your work.
If they do respond, be prompt and complete. Follow-up works both ways: answer questions, provide requested details, and do what you said you would do. That consistency helps build trust, whether or not the conversation leads to a next step. This is general relationship guidance, not investment advice.
